random topic 1 -- procrastination and youtube: So i've got these 2, 4 page, single spaced papers due next thursday that i've been trying to make myself start writing ever since last-last week. LAME! and at 1pm today, i decided to finally sit down and force myself into action. yes. that would have worked FINE except, i got sidetracked by youtube. youtube...is amazing. i can't get enough of these people. youtube videos pull you right in because...these people and their youtube personas are entertaining, theres no commitment to be their real friend because they don't know you, and since people are all such self centered creatures...its always amazing to find out that so-and-so from australia has so many funny things to say. anyway i watched for like... an hour and a half. death! random topic 2 -- crusty and the blob: oh right, the reason i'm making this post is to say that... now that i've actually started on my paper, i was reminded of this BLOB that my friend crusty drew last semester. she showed me the blob a couple days ago and OMGSH it really reminded me of this blob that i saw in Principles of Neural Science 4th edition by Nobel prize winning Eric Kandel. I was doing some light reading a couple days ago and... yeah right, who do you think i am? i was doing research for my project and got drawn into this chapter and i saw this blob figure that demonstrated one fo the gestalt principles in visual perception...and i swear to you.. THIS BLOB = CRUSTY's BLOB. man were they identical. random topic 3 -- starbucks and spoonfuls of dirt: In the past 3 years, i've been drinking a lot of coffee. A LOT. and for the first two of the past 3 years, i've been drinking really crappy $.99 12 oz coffee, which now costs $1.29, from the physics cart. they also have it at other places but i like to associate this really bad coffee with the physics cart because: 1. The physics building is one of the worst planned out buildings i have ever seen in my life and it smells like a bathroom. 2. I always bought a cup of it before orgo 2 lecture last semester. and before physics lectures, and orgo 1... and calc 1- 3, and stats, and... wow. thats a lot of bad coffee. 2. I was always scared of making a fool of myself by spilling coffee in orgo 2 lecture since i sat in the front... 3. And, I DID made a fool of myself by spilling the coffee in class. twice. Ever since they raised the price of this bad coffee last year, i have been boycotting it with a passion!!!!! how DARE they! anyway. instead of paying $1.29 + tax for terrible coffee, i now pay $13.99 + tax for a bag of coffee. i now consider myself a coffee Connoisseur (this word is randomly capitalized because i did not know how to spell it and typed my version of it into word where it was pointed out by the squiggly red line to be horribly mispelled... and since it was word and since word is presumptuous, it auto-capitalized the first word of this supposed sentence that i was about to start writing. and of course since it's word, the font has changed because there was a bunch of hidden, evil html stuff that also got pasted in...wonderful.) because i have officially gotten used to coffee, actually like coffee, wiki-ed coffee, and now have 2 favorite blends of coffee from starbucks. the point of this was... i was scooping coffee into a filter today and noticed that the new blend im trying looked a lot like top soil. interestingly enough, they say that adding the ground coffee after you've used it into your garden increases the nitrogen in that soil...AND so, i've tried to do that with my 3 potted plants here about 2 months ago... nothing miraculous has happened yet but that might be because i have not watered them in the past 2 months. anyway. i highly recommend the cafe estima blend from starbucks. thats the one that DIDN't look like top soil. plus its fair trade so you and i both can feel better about stunting our growth for the betterment of folks in columbia. |
